TASK 1-SELF REFLECTION

Today, I have learnt that biochemistry is very essential in our daily life. Through the studies of the structure and function of each living cell, it has improved my understanding and realised that biochemistry has makes our life easier. It is interesting to know that reaction in cell that cannot be seen by our naked eyes can bring a significant change in our life. There are a lot of things that can be discovered through biochemistry such as how the changes in shape of biomolecules from micromolecules to macromolecules, the process that they undergo and how they interact with each other. For example, complex biomolecules are produced from simple molecules such as fatty acids and glycerol could form lipid after attaching themselves.       The concept of biochemistry can be used in various field such as medicine & clinical ,agriculture, industry, cosmetics and food. By using the biochemical principle such as the structure and functions some of the biomolecules for instance carbohydrate, protein, lipids and nucleic acid we could use the knowledge to produce more improved medication, herbicide and pesticide production, skincare and makeup production as well as ways to produce new product that can bring goods to our life. For instance, the enzyme protease can be used to clean stain that is hard to be clean like blood and the use of peptide is widely used in anti-aging products as amino acids are produced when collagen break down. Thus, we cannot deny that the study of chemical process in living organisms do upgrade our life.

After completing my first semester in UNIMAS, this course has taught me new things that i believed will be helpful in my future career. From the first class of Biochemistry I learn new terms as well as recall back my memories on thing that I already knew.       For the first semester I have learned about the structure and the function of biomolecules. Some example of the biomolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acid. Every biomolecules have different application, structure and functions. For example the function of nucleic acid is to give protein information while carbohydrates is to give support and energy. Then I also can identify the differences between biochemical principles, enzymes and metabolic pathways. Last but not least, the concept of biochemistry can be used in various field such as industry, agriculture and food. For example the function of rennin (enzyme) is to coagulate milk proteins in cheese production. While metabolic pathways widely used in agriculture to cloning important trait genes.        In conclusion I think this course give many benefits to me. It helps me to improve my communication skill throughout this semester. From the first class I discover that we need to be active. This is because we need to communicate to deliver our ideas to the group while trying to come out with a brilliant ideas.

Firstly, I would like to thank to Dr HashimatsulRatmaHashim as she help me to understand this course. Through this course, I learn a lot of chemical processes that occur in living organisms. Take, for example, ATP formation in mitochondria, urine formation and also photosynthesis in plant cells. Besides that, biochemistry also discuss a lot of biomolecules that are very important for living organisms such as carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acid. All of these biomolecules have their own structure, three dimensional arrangement and function. More importantly, biochemistry can be applied to real world. In industry, biochemistry can be applied to production of detergent and softener to remove the strains. There are a lot of techniques and procedures are needed to manufacture the products.       In conclusion, I would like to thank Dr HashimatsulRatmaHashim and my friends to give me a motivation to enjoy this course. All the best in final examination!
